Ayurvedic Approach to Radiant Skin and Hair with the Goodness of Almonds

Kochi, 22nd October 2024: Everyone today wants to look beautiful on the outside, but not many understand that true beauty comes from inner health. While many depend on beauty products to improve their skin and hair, they often neglect the importance of internal nourishment. The Almond Board of California hosted an event to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining inner beauty, featuring a panel discussion titled "Ayurvedic Beauty Rituals: Harnessing the Power of Almonds for Glowing Skin and Healthy Hair" at The Gateway Hotel in Ernakulam, Kochi. The discussion focused on the role of almonds from an Ayurvedic perspective, highlighting how nourishing the body from within, with natural and nutritious foods, can lead to healthy skin and hair. 

The panel discussion featured Ayurveda expert - Dr. Madhumitha Krishnan, renowned Malayalam Actress – Rajisha Vijayan, Nutrition & Wellness Consultant - Sheela Krishnaswamy.  

The discussion began with Ayurveda expert Dr. Madhumitha Krishnan highlighting the vital role almonds play in promoting overall well-being, particularly in maintaining healthy skin and hair. She pointed out that established Ayurvedic, Siddha, and Unani texts recognize almonds as beneficial for skin health and capable of enhancing skin glow. Additionally, she recommended incorporating a handful of almonds into one's diet to help achieve a healthy body. The panel discussion further emphasized Ayurveda's acknowledgment of almonds as a significant food, detailing their benefits for the nervous system and their role in balancing the doshas. Moreover, almonds are noted for their effectiveness in treating premature graying of hair, reducing hair fall, and promoting overall skin health.   

During the discussion, the seasoned nutritionist Sheela Krishnaswamy also emphasized the importance of mindful eating and advocated incorporating natural foods like almonds into the daily diet, prioritizing them over highly processed foods for better overall well-being and a glowing appearance. Furthermore, Rajisha Vijayan shared that almonds are her go-to snack, and she always carries a box with her while traveling or shooting. She said that almonds keep her full longer due to their satiating properties, helping her avoid junk food and promoting overall health. The renowned actress also emphasized her belief that outer beauty is a reflection of inner well-being, highlighting the importance of being mindful about food choices and relying on natural, nutritious options like almonds.

A diet rich in such foods aligns with Ayurvedic principles, promoting balance among the three doshas and fostering internal harmony. This holistic approach to health emphasizes that by integrating natural foods like almonds into our diet, we can enhance our well-being from the inside out, leading to glowing skin and heathy hair." 

Nutrition & Wellness Consultant Sheela Krishnaswamy added, “I strongly believe that looking good on the outside starts with feeling good on the inside. One of the best ways to achieve this is by eating the right kind of food. My recommendation has always been to focus on natural and nutritious foods while avoiding processed and packaged options high in sugar, salt and refined carbs. Incorporating foods like almonds into your everyday diet is essential due to their nutritional profile and health benefits. Almonds are packed with 15 essential nutrients, including protein, iron, calcium, dietary fiber, and magnesium. They also contain vitamin E, a nutrient which is known for its anti-aging properties that benefit skin health. In fact, daily consumption of almonds may help enhance the skin’s resistance to UVB light and improve skin texture. According to the Dietary Guidelines for Indians, published by the Indian Council of Medical Research, National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR-NIN), nuts like almonds have been recognized as nutritious and can be consumed daily for optimal health.”  

Renowned Malayalam Actress Rajisha Vijayan said, “As an actress, I’m always mindful of my diet to ensure my skin and hair stay healthy, especially with the constant demands of facing the camera. I believe that inner health reflects in our appearance, so I make it a point to include nutritious foods like almonds in my routine. I love snacking on almonds between shoots as they help me avoid unhealthy options, which can impact both my skin and overall well-being. Incorporating natural foods like almonds into my diet has made a noticeable difference to my health, skin, and hair.” 

The discussion concluded with the panelists emphasizing the importance of incorporating almonds into a regular diet, highlighting that a handful of these nutritious nuts is essential for everyone and highly beneficial for skin and hair health.
